Environment Agency (EA) The leading public body for protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales with the role of ensuring that air, land and water are looked after by everyone in today's society, so that tomorrow's generations inherit a cleaner, healthier world.

British Waterways Board (BWB) British Waterways is the organisation responsible for maintaining 2,200 miles (3,540km) of an inland waterway network so that people can use it for a wide range of leisure activities. Inland Waterways Association (IWA) The Inland Waterways Association campaigns to ensure that existing waterways and their surroundings are conserved and maintained in the best possible condition and developed sensitively to suit future needs. This is achieved through lobbying Government, local councils and the Navigation Authorities, consultation, giving advice, organising and providing manpower for projects, fund raising and giving financial aid.

British Canoe Union (BCU) Set up in 1936 to send a team to the Berlin Olympics, the BCU is the lead body for canoeing and kayaking in the UK. Since then the organisation has grown considerably, and the range of canoeing opportunity has increased tremendously. The site provides a search facility to locate approved centres in your region and/or postcode.

Steam Boat Association of Great Britain (SBA) The Steam Boat Association of Great Britain was formed in 1971 to promote the enjoyment of steamboats and to represent the interests of steamboat owners. SBA seeks to foster and encourage steam boating and the building, development, preservation and restoration of steam boats and steam machinery.

Electric Boat Association (EBA) The Electric Boat Association was founded in the UK in 1982 to promote the development in Electric Boating throughout the UK and is represented at discussions involving legislation for inland waterways.Electrically propelled boats on inland waterways are the most efficient form of transport available, both globally and at the point of use where there is no noise, no pollution and no fuss.

Coracle Society The aims of the Coracle Society are:

  • To promote the knowledge of coracles, curraghs and allied craft, their construction and use, also their study and collection.
  • To support the continuance of fishing involving the use of coracles.
  • To encourage the holding of coracle regattas, races, and allied events.
  • To support the craft of coracle making in all its forms.

    National Trust Protects and opens to the public over 300 historic houses and gardens and 49 industrial monuments and mills. At Flatford, Willy Lott’s Cottage and their tea room is a pleasant accompaniment to our river trips aboard Stour Trusty II .

    Dedham Vale AONB and Stour Valley Project A small team focusing on conserving and enhancing the special qualities of the Stour Valley, but this is only one element of a much wider group of organisations committed to championing the environmental and cultural quality of the area.

    Pioneer Sailing Trust Set up in 1999 to restore the last remaining 1st Class Essex Skillinger Smack Pioneer. Pioneer has a full sailing programme for 2010 and is now fitted out with accommodation for groups of 12, and her 3 professional crew. The Pioneer Sailing Trust has been contracted to restore the John Constable Stour Lighter as part of the Managing a Masterpiece scheme.

    Sudbury Canoe Club The club enjoys some of the best canoeing and kayaking in the world, from river running to exhilarating white water kayaking. Run by qualified BCU Coaches, the club caters for both young and old paddlers, beginners and more advanced.

    Sudbury Rowing Club Rowing and sculling takes place on a 1500m stretch of water between a weir at one end of the River Stour and a low bridge with shallow water at the other. The club is active the whole year round, training through the winter for the Men's, Women's and Veteran's eights heads in March and April while for the rest of the year the club concentrates on fours, pairs, doubles and sculls.

    Sudbury Society A registered charity that is affiliated to the Civic Trust and the Suffolk Preservation Society.

    Stour Sailing Club Caters for racing, cruising and fishing. It has a full social programme and the clubhouse is open most lunchtimes and evenings. The Club invites new members of all ages and we welcome those with sailing experience or those who wish to sail or to learn about other activities on the water. There is a place for those less active too!
